（川）毌穿通流水也。毌各本作貫。毌、穿物持之也。穿、通也。巛則毌穿通流。又大於巜矣。水有始出謂川者。如爾雅水注川曰谿、許云泉出通川爲谷是也。有絕大乃謂川者。如皋陶謨巜距川、攷工記澮達於川是也。本小水之名、因以爲大水之名。虞書曰。謂古文皋陶謨。濬巜歫巛。歫各本作距。今正。今尙書作畎澮距川者、後人所改也。言深巜之水會爲川也。此偁尙書釋之。以見尙書之川與川字有間矣。川今昌緣切。古音在十三部。讀如春。雲漢之詩是也。凡川之屬皆从川。
